INTEXT by PLACEBO EFFECTS is amongst the four winning entries for the 100% Risor competition to create the first design hotel in Norway.

A bathing-sleeping landscape forms the base for the important functions in the room.

With a young interdisciplinary design team PLACEBO EFFECTS have delivered a highly innovative design hotel room concept for the 100% Risor competition, which challenges the conventions of what a hotel room is, how it is used and where the functions in a traditional hotel room are placed.

The competition was a collaboration between 100% Risor and Norsk Form. The goal for the competition was to create a design hotel in Risor to show the best of new Norwegian contemporary design. The hotel and the rooms were to be rooted in the history of Risor, and its traditions and nature. The concept ‘ballast’ was the theme for the competition.

Risor is one of Europes best kept wooden house towns, and a popular summer resort on the southern coast of Norway. It has gained a reputation for its high concentration of artists and cultural events such as the world famous Risor Chamber Music Festival.

Of the 36 entries considered by the jury, four were seleceted winners with prize monies of 25000 Norwegian kroner each. The jury writes: ”Intext” by Placebo Effects show an international hotelroom with numerous conceptual features. The integration of the bath is innovative and the jury liked very much the placement of the bed by the window and the beautiful views. The concept is professional in both its execution, details and visualization, and as such stands out from the rest of the entries”.

PLACEBO EFFECTS also got honorary mention for the two concept entries ”Origami” and ”Organisk” (Organic).

The whole crew of PLACEBO EFFECTS authored, designed and produced the competition entry with additional support from interaction designer Ivar Lyngve and artist Marius Watz.
